ABOUT

What are greenways?

Greenways connect our community. They create literal physical accessibility, connecting neighborhoods and important cultural sites like parks and community centers. Greenways strengthen social bonds and local pride in place by creating accessible hubs for community.

Greenways are often located along natural features like waterways, or along built features such as railroad corridors.

Greenways are:

  • Shared-use Paved Paths
  • Created within public green space
  • Barrier free (ADA Compliant)
  • Community destinations

Greenways are enjoyed by:

  • Runners
  • Walkers
  • Cyclists
  • Strollers
  • Rollerbladers
  • Skateboarders

What is Greenways for Nashville?

OUR MISSION

As a nonprofit organization, Greenways for Nashville works to promote, support, and enhance a system of greenways and open space in Nashville and Davidson County.

OUR WORK

Greenways for Nashville is an independent nonprofit that supports Nashville’s greenways and open space network, working towards the vision of a connected community.

We fundraise for greenways enhancements, for the equitable expansion of the network across the county, and for open space preservation. In our nonprofit role, Greenways for Nashville also convenes multi-sector greenways partners around common goals and vision, activates greenways use through community events, and works in partnership with neighborhoods to advance local advocacy.

We serve as a vehicle for elevating community voices, and educate citizens about opportunities for community involvement in the planning process.

OUR STORY

Since 1994, Greenways for Nashville has assisted in developing a significant trail footprint of 110 miles, including the protection of over 2,700 acres of floodplain land and the addition of over 7,000 acres of park land through the work of the Greenways and Open Space Division of Metro Parks.
