2026 challenge

Run, Walk, Ride, or Roll
All of Nashville's Greenways
in 2026

TAKE THE PLEDGE

Up for a challenge?

Take the pledge to get outside and stay healthy in 2026 by enjoying all the greenways segments during the year. With over 100 miles all throughout the city, participants will experience new neighborhoods and connect with Nashville in different ways.

What is the Greenways Challenge?
  • A fun, open-to-all invitation for exploration.
  • An opportunity to learn and to push yourself.
  • A year-long excuse to go outside.
ALL the greenways?! Aren’t there 100+ miles all throughout Davidson County?

It’s called a challenge for a reason. But we have offered two different tiers of engagement: you can opt to complete the challenge by enjoying almost all greenways segments (of at least a half-mile or so), or you can opt to try for every inch.

Who should participate?

Anyone who would like to set an intention for movement and connection throughout 2026.
While we’re kicking this off at the start of the New Year, you can join the Challenge any time.

What “counts” as completing a greenways segment?

Run, walk, ride, or roll the complete length of a greenway.

By yourself, with friends or family or neighbors, alongside your dog, or with new connections.

You can use your feet, a bike, an e-bike, rollerblades, skateboard, scooter, rollerblades, stroller, or wheelchair! (What are we missing?!) But no matter your preferred method of movement, be respectful and follow greenways rules and etiquette.

Throughout the year, Greenways for Nashville will host and co-host optional greenway meetup events. You can also complete the challenge totally solo – but if you’re up for it, we’d love to catch up and get to know you, too.

Once you’ve signed up for the pledge, you’ll receive our template Greenways Passport, where you’ll mark which greenways segments you’ve completed and when. Using the Passport is optional, if you’d prefer to track your movements through a different method.

We’ll use the honor system, but we’d love to see photographic evidence of your adventures. Tag us @greenwaysfornashville. (Who knows, maybe our end-of-year celebration will include a prize for “Best Selfies Taken Throughout the 2026 Greenways Challenge”?) We won’t share the names of participants, but we would love to share pictures and stories that you post to social media.

Hold me accountable, please!

We have a recommendation: go public. Once you’ve taken the pledge, in addition to the Greenways Passport we’ll also send you the Greenways Challenge logo and a sample message that you are free to share with others.

There’s nothing that says accountability like making your commitments known to the world! Also, sharing your goal is a great opportunity to invite others to join you in the Greenways Challenge, making the goal attainable and even more fun.

We won’t overload your inbox. But when you make the pledge, we’ll share occasional check-ins and reminders to help keep you on track.

What if there’s a closure?

Sometimes segments of a greenway need to close for maintenance. (Thank you, hardworking maintenance team of Metro Parks!) We’ll be understanding if you aren’t able to complete a needed segment on your Greenways Passport due to an extended closure.

This challenge is lofty. How can I stay motivated?

Remember the benefits! Staying healthy. Connecting with loved ones and meeting new people. Experiencing wildlife. Moving as a means of recreation – or transportation. Falling in love, again and again, with Nashville.

When you complete the challenge, send your “stamped” Greenways Passport our way via email. You’ll receive a Greenways for Nashville swag item of your choice – totally worth it, we swear. Greenways for Nashville will also host an *exclusive* celebration event at the end of 2026 for all who took the pledge, with fun recognition for those who fully complete the challenge. (This will be the most coveted invitation of the year, we predict.)

And a priceless prize? Endless bragging rights.

I’m afraid of commitment. What happens if I take the pledge, but I don’t complete the challenge?

Somehow, we’ll forgive you. No public shaming, we promise. But we will do our best to make the Greenways Challenge attainable by offering group activities and meet-ups to help you along the way – especially for the far-flung segments that are shorter in length. (Psst: These events will be open to all, including those who aren’t part of the challenge.)

And what’s the worst that could happen – you try something and meet fellow greenways-lovers along the way…?!

Okay, I’m in. How does the pledge work?

By adding your name to the list, you are setting an ambitious (but fun and certainly achievable) goal for the year. You will receive occasional updates about group walks or rides across the various segments, if you’d like to join others engaged in the Greenways Challenge.

Special thanks to Kristine LaLonde for sparking this idea! Additional thanks to Dan Albright and Nathan Fields for helping hone the details. Our work is stronger when fellow greenways lovers contribute.
